A glimpse of the locksmith ’star studded’ event! June 30, 2011 at 1:51 pm

The Awards were bloody brilliant says a clearly brimming with joy John of The Manchester Locksmiths Co.

The aim was to present ONE locksmith of the year award. The ‘Belcher Award’ named after Chris Belcher for his example in helping others. But again this was the first such event in the industry and we had no model to work on.

It became clear almost as soon as we had asked for votes that it would be impossible to pick one locksmith from some point in the UK and slap an award in his hand says Johnof Locksmiths Manchester Co. Thus we modified our approach…who in the industry had given tireless help to other locksmiths? This of course led us to pose the question of the various locksmith forums – including LASM’s own Professional Locksmith Forum. (Some of the others are very elite and I am not of sufficient status to be allowed access to them.)

We did get nominations from several areas and the same names kept being proposed. In a compromise for the first year, Chris Belcher and I decided that as the same three names kept coming up we would make three awards in the first year. We have however decided that the three winners can sift the nominations next year and present Chris and I with a shortlist – the eventual winner will replace one of the panel and the same each year, so we have a fresh judge each year.

Next was a bit of a surprise for Chris Belcher who had no idea he was going to get a Lifetime Achievement Award – well deserved and long overdue industry recognition comments John of Locksmith Manchester Co.
